How to keep Orchids ALIVE!!!?

So, i love potted orchids. I have a great florist, but everytime i ask her how to care for them she seems to be busy and give me a care card. It doesnt tell me much but to water every 7 days and to keep in a well lit area but not in Direct sunlight. I only water them with bottled water because our water quality is very poor. I dont know what is wrong with me but the drop like flies every time i get them. HELLPPP!!!
When they die, it starts about a week from when i get them. The buds that havent opened start to turn a goldy brown, Then the flowers start looking thin, and frail, then wrinkly. The vines and leaves are alive and well though. Maybe i am watering too much. My bathroom has a small high window, but it doesnt allow much light into the room because of a tree outside. Is there a way to increase the humidity somewhere else in my home?
