We have a small kitchen in an older house that is attached to a smaller “study”. Can we make it a big kitchen?

Our home, built in the 50’s, has a small kitchen with one bank of upper cabinets mirrored by similar bottom cabinets. These run in a straight line. There is not real area for a stove or a refridgerator. We would like to take down the wall that is separating the kitchen and the study and make it all one space. My husband doesn’t seem thrilled with this idea and I would like to give him an idea of what I am talking about. I would like to make the kitchen area a sort of family area as well…with a tv and a sofa…maybe a couple of cozy chairs. I was in a house once with a set up like this but can’t remember what they called this combined space for the life of me. Any idea?

Do you think it is wise to take away this tiny study and incorporate it into a larger kitchen. The home is only about 900 SqFt so every inch must be used to its greatest potential. There will be 5 of us living in this tiny home and I thought this expanded Kitchen/Family room area would be just right for our three children.
