YIKES! Minty/pastel green mistake? Paint job is almost finished?
My fiance and I – 21 years old – purchased a condo in october 2008. The place is pretty out of date – built in 1980 and until we moved in not 1 update made.
I patined the living room a really pretty neutral tan color (not too beige, it was called toasted walnut or something like that…)…
The dining room/kitchen/stairway/upstiars hallway are pretty much all one room. You cant paint one without painting the other. They flow right into eachother.
I had my heart set on this certian shade of green. It was kind of a light sage neutral shade of green. When we went to the paint store – they didnt have any of the color that i saw in a book of theirs! And the person who was painting was comming the next day. So we looked through what they DID have (which was a lot!) and bought something that we thought was close to what I wanted.
We painted some on the dining room wall before the man came, and it wasnt too bad. But when we got home yesterday and saw all of the green paint, it was kind of a dissapointment. The lighting on the stairs and upstairs hallway is much different than the lighting in the dining room. The dining room has really good natural lighting and makes the color look pretty light and nice. In the upstiars hallway it looks like a minty/pastel green. Something you’d find in an old persons bathroom or in an infants bedroom. YIKES!
Now, being 21 – and not having too much cash to play around with – we’re going to keep the color. The man painting is doing it as a favor, and hes only got one more wall to paint.
Our trim is brown and we’re changing it to white – I think that will help make it look a little updated….
What colors can I use to kind of modernize the ‘old peoples house’ green paint? …. in the dining room I’m doing some sunflower things – I’ve got a sunflower needle point that my mom made and framed in a nice white frame that I’m going to hang in the kitchen, and a sunflower decorative plate to hang on a small wall in the dining room.
The green is a very cool color, so I should probably stay with other cool colors. I was thinking of doing like light lavenders and yellows. (not pastel yellows…just lighter shades of yello and lavender)….
I’m thinking maybe in the kitchen I should go with the “country farm house” look. This color reminds me of something that might be found in an old farm house. Maybe I can get a watering can and paint it white and put a plant in it.
Any help with a minty/pastel green color scheme would be great.
Thanks (if you can find pictures on websites that would be good…i’ve been looking all morning for ideas)
We’re probably going to re-paint next summer or next fall. So maybe I shouldnt decorate yet?
Now that i see how it looks with ALL that color, we’ll probably just go with an off-shade of white (since the rooms flow so much. Too much of one color just doesnt look good)….
