I really like the "live, laugh, love, believe, friend, family" themes. any ideas suggestions, websites, color scheme ideas. mostly everything I have is black and will probably stay that way.

I really want major in psychology and become a counselor, however I have this passion for interior design. I would love to be able to get my masters in counseling and do some design on the side.
Would it be better to be an interior decorator than designer?
What type of schooling do I need for decorating?

I have a small, vinyl, black chair in my bedroom from Ikea. It's like this one only vinyl instead of leather.

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80106253

I'm thinking about redecorating my room, and I really like the chair, but it doesn't match with the new color scheme. Do you think there is any way to make the chair a different color?

And I want sort of an 'Old Hollywood' look.
wow surprise there right. Doesn't everybody?
Well anyway I do, but I not the whole over-the-top 'my-bedroom's-a-exact-replica-of-Marilyn-Monroe's' sort of thing, the way a lot of American's seem to be going towards. I am Australian and sensibility usually comes before extravagance, in my case anyway.
I can't get rid of my timber blinds, my timber bed side table and dressing table/chest of drawers and my wooden floor, all of which are three different wood colours. And my not-so-built-in wardrobe, which I hate.
So really all I can do is get new bedding, which I'm doing, and get some lamps and stuff I guess.
What I want to ask is, does anyway have any ideas about any styles, like for my bedding and colour scheme's and that sorta thing?
Knowing me, I will probably go with my original instinct but any help will be valuable and I will be truly grateful. :)

Note: (on a completely different topic)
The Yahoo Spell Corrector thing accepted 'sorta' as a word but gave me an ugly red line underneath my spelling of 'colour. And also complained about my use of punctuation, apparently I use too much, sorry if I know how to write. Just saying....

I want to add something to my bedroom. I am putting up a link to the bedding that I currently have. Please feel free to post links to any accent pillows or accessories that would go with the bedding. Try to keep the price down. I like places like Target or Urban Outfitters. I like the urban chic look. And definitely vintage!

I saw this on TV and I adore this room

Would these pillows go?

I have a Sunday school class that I am going to let decorate plates for mother's day. I'm going to let the older kids do any kind of picture they want to but I also have 2 and under children and I want to come up with something a little different for them to decorate the plate with. I thought about hand prints and a hand print poem. I thought maybe someone would have a better idea.
These are the Makit plates that you decorate a piece of paper and the company prints it on a plate.

I'm working on decorating my new apartment and have run into some slight problems. First of all the set up is fairly open. The kitchen, hallway, dining room and living room are all very visible to each other.

Now the main appliances in the kitchen are red and white (I don't know how that happened either) The living room couch is green, and the dining room set is a red stained wood.

What colors can I use to make this work well and not feel like Christmas year round?

I am also open to ideas about reupholstering the couch as it needs it anyway.

My roommates and I prefer not to have a red white and black color scheme as it is too harsh for our preference.

Our design styles are also a bit incompatible, as 1 female is gothic/New Orleans, 1 female is a more natural style, and the 3 is male with a more New England style preference.

Any ideas to help us out at all?

I'm doing some research for my boss....he just rented out a new office building and he wants to make a couple changes. Somehow it finds on me to figure all of this stuff out and I know NOTHING about interior decorating! He wants to dye the carpet...I don't know if it's possible to DYE carpet but he specifically told me to check how much it would cost to dye around 1500 square feet of carpet.

Ok, here's the situation. I am going to redecorate my master Bedroom & Bathroom. The rooms are open to one another, but Small. My bedroom carpet is a rose mauve color as well as my bath. I have a Heart Shaped Tub, which is also a mauve marble color. And my vanity and cabinets and trim are all dark oak. The bathroom has carpet also, which were going to change to a rock looking linoleum, and we are putting rock or fake rock around the bottom of the tub also. I have a lot of Mirrors im my bathroom as well. I was thinking of painting the bathroom and bedroom like an off white almost vanilla color, to open it up some. My bedroom furniture is BIG /Bulky, and it is a Dark Cherry color. My husband and I are wanting to spice it up a little, but were not sure what to do. I thought some Burgundy and Gold would look good, but Im not sure. We are wanting a theme to our room, but what exotic theme goes with mauve??? I thought a Geisha look, but he didn't like that. And we both want something different, not girlie or manly but just something neutral. Could you guys give us some ideas... Something that goes with mauve, but isn't too girlie or too manly Please HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPP

I have been buying several decorating magazines and like the look of radiators on display in them which have the pipe work coming out of the wall instead of the floor from underneath.

However, I always thought that plumbing and pipes could not be chased into brick or solid walls due to the expansion of the pipes when they heat up.

Have you fitted radiators where you have put the pipes into a solid wall in order to neaten up the pipe work?

Ive seen some designer radiators that are halfway up walls and obviously you wouldnt have pipe work leading from the floor up to the radiator, it would compeltely ruin the look, so where do the pipes go?

Thanks

I would like to install wooden floors throughout my ground floor. However, I want a 'through' look without any interuptions at doorways, I want the wood to be able to flow through the rooms.
I have been told by a couple of floor fitters that because its wood which moves about depending on the weather etc, you cannot have huge areas of wooden floor fitted without putting thresholds/expansion gaps in door ways in case the floor shrinks or expands.

I have been buying several decorating magazines and their spreads of lovely flooring never show any horrible beading or threshold strips at doorways and even up against the walls (although I suspect that it is hidden by the skirting in some cases)

Do you have wooden floors? What have you done at thresholds and doorways? Do you have beading or expansion strips?

Thanks

This is what her bedspraed look like:

So far I have chosen a cool minty green color for the walls to be paired with the white cabinets, sink, toilet and found a few very soft plush white rugs to go over the dark grey slate tiiles. I need to add the small touches now. Ideas welcome!

I am not going to paint it yet. My bedroom is a creamy, beige color. Sort of tan i guess. But i want it to have a warmer and cozy feel to it. Maybe using colors like red, orange, hot pink, or yellow for my bed set and curtains. I really need help on what to do. Pictures would be great. what should i do. I already ordered a new bed and dresser and night stand, it's a dark brown. BTW i'm a 14 and a girl. Any ideas will be helpful??

Hi. I'm 18 and i need some ideas on decorating my room.
My room is really small, so i can't do a lot.
I have a stripy blue carpet and blue curtains and the walls are an ugly creamy yellow colour.

The carpet is definitely staying.
I might change the curtains and i'm definitely re-painting.

Do you know what colours will look good? and what i can put on the walls? I want it to look funky.
I'm an arty person, love art and photography.
Love psychology and animals and just crazy stuff.

Thanks for any help.

I consider myself a decorating dunce, so I don't know how to coordinate this. The fireplace wall is a deep brown brick with tan grouting. There is a chair rail with bead board in a light pine running around the remaining three walls, and the door molding is also light pine. Above the chair rail, the walls are painted a light blue/green. The family room overlooks the pool outside, so I'm trying to create a seaside feeling.

I want to put down Pergo flooring, but don't have a clue how to choose a shade. Should I try to get a shade that blends closely with the light pine? Or, since the brick is a milk chocolate color, should I look for a shade between the brown and the light pine? Any guidance will be appreciated!

My neighbour recently had work done to his roof. I live in a mid terraced house and the neighbour (landlord) had a chimney stack (part of his property, but touching mine) taken down because it was leaking into his property. 2 weeks after the work was done, I noticed a leak in my bathroom ceiling which is directly below where the chimney was removed. I contacted the landlord and the roofer who did the work came round to fix it.Problem solved. So I thought anyway. Just as we were re-decorating the bathroom completely (we were planning on this anyway before the leak) we heard a dripping noise. It was coming from the same spot as before. I looked in the attic and it was coming from the exact spot were the neighbours chimney was removed. I contacted the landlord, and the roofer rang me again and said that it was fixed last time and it's been 3 months since he did the work. He also said that he had told me previously that my felt was rotting away the last time he came but that is beside the point. My teeth are rotting but im not gonna replace them just like that.I told him that the equation is simple: before he did the work there was no leak. After the work was done it was for leaking. Now for the second time. The roofer wasnt happy and he said he will come this weekend to have another look.Sorry to rant on but where do I stand legally and can I make a claim, or get a PROFESSIONAL in to do the work and charge the landlord ??

I'm moving into a house in April and the kids will be sharing a room. My son is 8 and my daughter is 5. I got borders with nascar and ariel. Yes, its odd but I have to accomediate my children :). I got the two big ones to agree on blue but the baby wants red (she's 3) I really don't want blue either. I was think neutral colors and colors that will fit for their themes. Besides the greenish color in my link what other colors do ya'll suggest? I think I want to do stripes too.

I have brown parquet floors and grey walls ...
What colour sofa should I buy. I was initially thinking black, but i can't seem to find any affordable ones that fall into my budget. The black ones I do find, they never seem to be in stock (i'd have to wait for them ... over a month, which is too long)
Dark brown and/or Chocolate Brown seem to be less expensive and more readily available ...
What colour sofa/couch should I get? White? (same problem as black)

Thanks

NB I have red doors (bathroom, entrance and closet ... but they are not directly in the same room as the sofa ... they are visible from the sofa/couch area, but separate. From this said area, you can see into the kitchen (my cupboard doors are brown (colour is called dark ochre))

Thanks for any info

Okay, here is my living room if you can try to picture it. I have laminate(dark reddish brown color) through out my entire living room(is about 16 long and 19 wide). I have placed a 11x16 light grey carpet cut off because I hate laminate. My couch and love seat are the color of wet sand(cappuccino, they call it) I have 2 accent pillows on each couch(striped dark brown, tan, soft golden color and pale blue), I've got a suede swivel rocker(beige) I just painted my walls tan and my coffee and end tables a chocolate brown(same as color in the accent pillows, basic black tv stand. I want to know if I should paint my book shelf, which is currently that fake oak-look, the same color as the tables? Oh and what color might be good for my 8x10 picture frames that I will hang on the wall(school photos of kids)
also, would I have to sand the shelf first, it's not like an expensive real wood, it's that kind that has the finish on it(your typical walmart $39.99 shelf)

So Im going for an 60s 70s and 80s kinda laid back but trippy room. Im getting a blacklight and some blacklight paints and posters. I have my bed picked out and my tv stand but #1 I need to find a matching coffee table, black, and low to the floor preferrably modern and block-ish like my bed. and #2 a comforter that matches and will look cool with the black light. Here are the links to my bed and tv stand.

So my question is where can you get nice patio furniture and decor without the outrageous prices!? I live in Surrey, B.C., (Vancouver area) Also does anyone know of any good websites that have inspirations pictures of really well done patios?? I did not think it would be this hard! Thanks for your help ! Btw i've tried looking online at Home Depot, Jysk, Costco... and the theme that i was thinking was like a white and stone island, what do you think?

Originally, i want to be an interior architect,

QUESTION#1: are there a lot of firms in north america that hires interior architects?

, here's the problem, i'm a bit worried that maybe after i graduate, it would be hard for me to find a job because most firm departments are seperated to architects and interior designer, so i'm really worried that it wouldn't be easy for me to get a job. if it would be a problem trying to find a job, instead of taking interior architecture, i'm planning to take interior design/architecture problem is this, on interior designing, i don't really want just to focus on the detailing and decorating while in architecture, i don't reall just want to focus on the exterior. i'm very in between so i thought of interior architecture but i'm scared that no firm would hire me.

QUESTION#2: In case i get some troubles about interior architecture, what should i take? architecture or interior design? i really want a good paying job and both courses has its ups and downs for me.
please help

I want to re-do my 2 1/2 year old son's bedroom. He has emerald green carpet. I want something age appropriate. I was thinking either cartoon dinosaurs (not scary ones) or Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. I think if I use the carpet to look like grass it might match. I also have an overhead projector I was going to use to do a mural on the wall. Anyone else have any good ideas? Also, if I do dinosaurs I'm having a hard time finding pictures of dinos that are not lame and not scary. Thanks everyone!

Okay so me and my husband are both newlyweds. I'm 20 he's 22. I'm wanting to paint our room light yellow. I have picture frames that I'm going to put all pictures of us at the beach in them. I'm going to be painting the trim a bright white. My question is should I go all out with the beach theme and get a tropical looking fan and a white comforter. Or should I just leave the fan we have in there and get a colorful polka-doted or stripes comforter. Would that still look beachy? What do you think would be the most fitting for us as a young married couple? Thanks so much! Please give as much input as possible!!! Thanks!

This is our dresser below-

and this is our bed below-

Chrys - I will never understand why some people respond back so negatively. There is nothing wrong with asking people's opinions about things. Who would think someone would get rude over a question like this. I think you need to work on your little additude.
We just bought a new house!!!!!!! and we are decorating it!
R N seriously think you for actually answering the question.
Flossy86 - Thanks!!! That's what I'm going for something very relaxing, calm and peaceful! I love summer and the beach so I figured why not decorate our room like a beach house! The bathroom is decorated in lighthouses and my husband wants he's room painted light blue and it already has white trim and a big white fold out closet. Thanks so much for your input. Good luck with your decorating!!!
mommyoft...- Thanks for your input! I'm glad everyone has said the yellow would go good with our furniture. Because I want everything to match and flow together perfectly.

can you paint a kitchen counter top or is it easier to just replace it.. i love decorating and painting. but im in a rental house and im trying to do things as cheap as possible. its a very small kitchen counter. my kitchen has a southwestern theme and the counter tops are an ugly blue color.
the owner of this house is my boyfriends uncle. we can do pretty much whatever we want to this house lol. very lucky..

the counter tops are not cement.. is it expensive to buy a new one?

I am redecorating my room, and need some help. My room is already painted two different shades of blue, a lighter one at the top and a darker at the bottom. I want to do a feature wall with wallpaper, what sort of wallpaper should I get it, and where can I get it for a reasonable price?
It shouldn't be too bright, and should go with a quite neutral sort of theme.
Please help, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks

Hi, I purchased a new home here in NJ and was wondering if anyone knew any interior decorators who do affordable decorating for homes. My budget isnt that as to over 10,000 but something under that for about 3 rooms. I looked all over the internet but theres a lot of them and its a bit hard to manage all the pricing and calling and many of them dont have customer testimonials which I need to see before asking them. I'd appreciate if someone can help me out w this. Thanks! and if you had any ideas for a contemporary yet eclectic living room/family room and kitchen. thanks!

My mom said I can paint a mural on it if I want, as I'm a fairly artistic person. Do you guys have any ideas for a mural or other ideas for things to put on my wall? (for example: posters, pictures, etc.)?

PLEASE somebody help me, : Is there anywhere I can get a round bed??Its like this country is diseased or something, no other countries want to import the cool things to us:(
I got a quote from Sydney for $4,000.WTF? I can buy a car for that price!.I need a new bed!
I currently have a queen size bed, nothing is wrong with it, but i am RE-DECORATING and to complete the look I NEED a round bed.

ok im a teenage girl and in the process of repainting and redecorating my room. i want some accent stuff to match my walls and i want it to have a punk style with some edginess. the shape of my room is like a square with a smalll rectangle attatched to it and my dresser takes up that little space. i have a small room. so the point is i want to paint my walls. (currently white and scuffed up.dirty) how should i paint them? im thinking a purple, black, and white theme considerng my doors are already white. how does two walls opposite eachother painted a medium not to bright purple sound? im not sure then repaint the other ones opposite eachother white or light grey? i dont want my room to seem smaller than it already is or really bright and frilly. suggestions would be great.

thanks

I remember seeing these Mason jars at a wedding or something a long time ago that were decorated with beads which were strung on bead wire and wrapped around the jar, and had a candle inside. I want to make some myself but would like to find a pattern/instructions. I can't find anything on google. Has anyone ever seen/heard of anything like this who can direct me to instructions? Thanks! =)
To Trapperkandoo: You probably don't even know what a Mason jar is. Go find your village, they must be missing you.

Hi everyone, I really hope someone can give me some inspiration... I am redecorating my living room. The walls are painted with "magnolia dreams" which looks magnolia coloured in the evening but has a slight purple tint during the day (enough for you to notice it). The flooring is tiled, a dark wood floorboard effect and we have purchased a dark brown leather sofa. I want to get a roman blind for the window and cushions and a rug for the room but am not sure which colour(s) would work best, specially with the wall colour. I want a colour that will stand out from the dark sofa and floor, we are planning on buying dark wood furniture for the room, I thought perhaps different shades of purple? I would like it kept simple, love the idea of having different patterned cushions in contrasting colours...help!!

I love the website PBteen, but some of the items are pretty pricy. Does anyone know of any similar places or websites that a teen girl would like for redecorating a bedroom?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
