OK so i was just watching tv and all off a sudden i hear something like a phone ringing, but its not my phone ring tone. Turns out its the security system ringing, and there's a green light flashing at RDY, im assuming that means READY. And it just keeps on ringing. I close on my new home on Tuesday! But I have to leave it empty for a while during the relocation time. It is in a beautiful area, but also an area where it is not uncommon for someone who does not belong there to make themselves comfy while it is empty. The front door and the large window has a metal cage frame to lock, which is typical in the area. I only have Tuesday night and Wednesday morning to add some more security features. It's just me and I'm a petite (but resourceful) young woman. Any exterior doors that open inwards I'll try to nail 2 by 4's across the inside. The place is a fixer upper so it's okay to butcher it a little. My two areas I would like input on: 1) How can I make the louvered exterior windows more secure? 2) The previous owner removed the a/c window units that were cut into the concrete walls. I will have to secure some plywood over them on the inside, but that would be easy to push out with a kick. any suggestions?

Hi- I need a door lock for my door the crown molding is completely ruined because my psychotic brother broke it down and I am unable to lock it which is a big problem. I need a security code lock- they're all over amazon but I'm afraid it isn't goint to work if the frame is cracked and off centered. I am a renter in Delaware and live in a home that is in pretty bad shape, (Health wise). I live with my girlfriend, her son, and my 3 dogs. We have been here since June 13, 2008 and immediately the problems began. Our problems range from, (holes in the bath tub, rats in every nook-n-cranny, up to the ever so wonderfull crowd pleaser, "MOLD". Our Landlord claims to know nothing about any, (NOT A ONE) of these problems and seemed to be quite shocked when we informed him. The old Tenants actually moved out of here and directly across the street. I was cleaning my car one day in Oct. and the old tenants son decided to come over and talk to me, (he's around 8-10yrs old). One of his first questions to me was, "Did xxx take care of the mold problem?", I was kinda shocked, since xxx said he didnt know anything about it. The boy then went on about numerous problems with the house and that his mom and dad moved out of here for all the same problems. I remember the day we first looked at the house xxx was really adimate about making sure we werent going to be short term, what we could and couldnt paint or fix which was strange then but more strange now considering on numerouse occassions my Girlfriend asked about painting or even removing the old paneling in the down stairs LR, and he told us Not to Touch it and dont ever ask again. This is the wall that has the mold we later found out! We have had our plumbing back up and flood out our Laundry rm. When we notified him it took him till the next day to get back with us at which point he left this nasty message on my girlfriends phone about we should have called him sooner and that he would try and get it fixed. This was a Friday, it happened on a Thur. He did eventually have a plumber come out late Friday night which at this point we were now 1 Full day without water. The Plumber told us a Tree was growing through our main pipe and it was Extremely important xxx gets it taken care of A.S.A.P. This was Oct. and here we sit, Jan 8, 09 still not fixed. He did send an exterminator out and the man that came out told us with his experience these rats have been here for years and also asked us, OUT OF THE BLUE HE ASKED, " Do you guys realize your home is infested with mold", I was puzzled how he could tell we had mold but he told us he could smell it and after investigating the house for pest's he saw it everywhere. What can we do? Can we bring civil action towards him? He has said to us that if we didn't like the house than we should move and stop complaining but if we did he would not give our security deposit back! I want to teach this guy a lesson and show him he can't just treat people like this. What am I able to do? My dogs-Jack Russell-Golden Retriever-and-German Shephard are always sick and scratching. They never had these problems before. Were sick more often than not. I'm just tired of him saying to us,"I am taking care of it, don't worry". I NEED HELP! i read in the papers today that the conventional light bulbs are being phased out, from what i can see, no-one has a good word to say about the new energy saving ones. they are saying things like they are health hazards and will spill mercury everywhere if they break and various other problems. also, is there any problems with dimmer switches or security lights?
