Several months age he had a water leak and came round as it was easier to fix it on our side.
He owns a drainage company so we though,t Ok he knows what he is doing so we said 'OK do what you need to do as long as its all made good afterwards'
There was so much water leaking that he broke the main drainage pipe for the water to flow away while he fixed the leak.
He fixed the leak and now we are left with a great big hole outside the house and to top it all there is now human waste stuck in the drain. We have had to cover the hole up with a lard piece of wood because its disgusting.
I have complained to him several times and he keeps saying he is busy but he will get one of his guys to do it next week. Next week never seems to come.
I am now getting worried as the weather starts to get warmer its going to cause a health problem.
Is there anything I can do legally or get the authorities involved.
We are in the UK
Many thanks
Sorry meant to read Large piece of wood not lard
tahnks

I'm not making excuses for doing this, but this could save me thousands of dollars in case a flood occurs in my basement.

How would the city be able to tell without actually seeing it in my basement? And how would they be able to get in my basement without my permission? A warrant?

please could you give me a rough idea, as i said i have got this horrible feeling that it is not going to be covered by the i/company.
we had leak in kitchen from d/course up walls over 1,000% in damp

We have a great deal here in the condo we live in. We would either pay $900 for rent/water/sewer/trash/cable AND electric OR $800 for the rent etc BUT pay the electric bill separate. Of course we chose the $900. So anytime the electric bill is more than $100 the owner would have to pay the rest. But now we're moving and will have to pay the electric bill ourselves. Besides not running the heat all winter long or AC all summer long what are other ways to save on the electric bill? We live in FL but it's been chilly lately so would buying a plug in heater save? What about not letting the fans spin all day in the summer? Thanks in advance!
What about using a night-light at night for my son's room?

The reason for this action was condensing in ventilation shaft that ends in the bathroom. I think is not correct, because in this way the ventilation will suck dirty air from the sewage. Am I right? Please give me arguments to convince my husband that it not good decision for removing condense. Thank you.

I live in an old house, from the 1900s, and I live on the second floor. I have not been living here for a year yet, but already have come across many problems. The big one right now is that I have a kitchen sink that is clogged. I have already tried all the typical solutions, Tried a plunger for 20 minutes, Used a drain snake, a full 25 feet was extended into the line, and still, the drain is somehow clogged. I used drano, a whole container of it, and let it sit overnight. Nothing. I cant think of anything else that would work. I mean, what could it possibly be that would be so far down that honestly, the drain should be connected to the main line by 25 feet. Nothing big gets in the drain either, only the occasional vegetable chunk or something like that. And it got clogged up one day, seemingly out of thin air. It was cold that day, and has been for the last several days, but I cant figure out how it would continue to be frozen after this length of time. Any new suggestions?

I also took the U-Joint off, and there was nothing in that either.
The sewer line is not the issue, because I just recently had a roto-rooter guy come out to my house and clean that out. No other drains in the house are clogged. And Yea, I took the U-joint off and nothing in that.

This always happens after a heavy rain. We are on public sewer. Thanks for your help.
We have had the line snaked a couple times but they couldn't find a blockage. How does the heavy rain fit into this? Thanks for everyone's responses so far.

I am leasing a commercial space. The landlord is responsible per the lease for all sewer-related expenses; however, I found out today when an electrician came out for an unrelated job that I have been paying the electricity to run the sewer lift station pump for the entire building! I thought I had something wrong because my electric bills have been 2-3 times what they were at my old lease space (500 sq feet smaller and NOT insulated like this space).

I am going to approach the landlord with the situation and demand repayment and that they immediately take the lift station pump off of my meter and install a separate meter and power source to run the lift station.

How do I determine what the average cost for running this lift station is on a daily basis? I've been paying for it for 6 months.
I need specifics. My electrical use changes monthly, depending on the need for heat and cooling. That's not the answer I'm looking for.

I'm trying to do it cheap because we have to redo the other bathroom, the kitch and the front door way. Really really cheap, but I want it to look nice. I need a:
shower/bath all in one
shower head
toilet (not white because we use sewer water)
cabniet for under the sink (big about 5 feet? estimate)
counter (if not included in the cabienet)
vanity
mirror (big)
small things like toilet paper and towel holders and soap dishes and things
floor (wood laminate) 10 by 6 bathroom? (we completely ripped the floor up, the whole bathroom is bare

could you paste a site for things? or a good place to buy them? or just a quote on how much they would cost?

thank you so much! this is going to be for my teenage son and daughter but they don't want colors like blue and yellow and green or anything. More like beige and deep brown and deep red

thank you so much! I was hoping that everything would turn out to about $3,000 dollars (I'm praying!) Do you guys have any tips to save money? The bathroom is completly stripped though!

Is that possible to program a water meter for saving water.
I mean is there any water-meter with such function, for example after 1000L it closes water, everyday, (it stops letting water pass through it).?
Water meter which can automatic cut off water will be very useful for me.
--
The system in which i want to use such water meter is 1000 liters water tank(that is enough) and pipes that goes out from tank to system..
everyday at night water fills in that tank.I have to let the water meter open and everyday it let water to pass trough it, 8000-9000 liters of water everyday.. but I need just 1000 liters...
so everyday 8000 liters of water just fills in sewerage.

Well to add some details, our toilet is clogged, water is coming out of our shower drain(not clean water may I add.) And water is seeping from underneath the walls.

Previously about yesterday, when we used the washer clean water would flow out frrom the shower drain and the toilet would bubble sometimes.

Any ideas on what the hell is going on?
Hrm, Im not too sure.
It might be a city, I'm not too sure though.

We have a sump pump and we have that "snake" machine so, we might have to use that.
Just to be clean the sewer clean you Matt K, is talking about does it have water around it or anywhere near it?It has a cap with a twisty thing to close it?

If so,I know what your talking about.

I have a slab foundation with a sing-level house built in 1962. I am having plumbing issues and want to rent an electric auger to clean out my drains.
Two months ago I had a plumber come out and jet the lines, but the problem came back last week with the same symptoms. When I shower for a long time the toilet gurgles and eventually the shower backs up. When we wash clothes the toilet gurgles and the shower and tub back up. The bathrooms and laundry room are on opposite sides of the house.
The plumber couldn't find the cleanout and didn't look real long either. They ended up going through the roof vent above where the bathrooms are located. I'd rather go through the cleanout on the ground if I could find it.
Should the cleanout be located near specific area of the house? i.e. the bathrooms or laundry room?

this recently started 2 days ago and has happened once before. i have asked about 15 people if they can smell it and they all are unable too. this is also happening at my neighbors house It smells like a mix of sulfur and sewer and it is so bad that i can't even take a shower, brush my teeth, or flush the toilet without gagging. it is so strong that i am confused as to why i am the only one who can smell it. i have been using bottled water since it started and have not smelled anything wrong with that water. what could it be and what can i do about it? more importantly, is it safe for the people who can't smell it to drink it?

does it get pumped out into the yard/property or does it go to the sewer? does the water and (stuff) from the toilet go into the sewer? is the sewer strictly waste and contamination? what about the water from the laundry, kitchen/bathroom sinks? does that got to sump pump or sewer? AND, can i drain rain/groundwater into my sump pump? thank you in advance...

My bathroom smells so bad, like a sewer. I used every cleaning chemicals to clean the bathroom, but the odor is still there. I'm positive it's the plumbing, think the odor mainly comes from the toilet. Any expert advice what it may be?

If I could get away with fixing this without a plumber that would be good - my husband is the proud type..
And what would the plumber do to fix this?

Our double vanity bathroom sinks have been clogged for a few months. The repair may be pretty extensive, as our pipes are behind the wall and we have to cut a huge hole in the wall. So, we have been using other sinks in the house instead.

Occasionally, I rinse my hands really quick in the clogged sink without any problem. If I accidentally run water too long, the water backs up and bubbles up through the other vanity sink (....which is why we don't use it). This will put off a horrid smell...usually like sewer/rotten eggs, and now tonight a putrid garlic smell. The plumber comes monday----

but...what exactly IS that SMELL? I know it's the funk down in there...but is it toxic? It's weird how it smells different each time. Gross, huh. Just curious. Thanks!

My old pedestal sump motor finally burned out so I went to Lowes today and bought a new pedestal sump on sale for 77 bucks. I have no idea about sump pumps, and my neighbor says he'll install a sump for us since hes a plumber.

I believe that my old pedestal sump is taller than the one I bought today. The new sump I bought today is a little bit shorter than my old one. I didnt look at my old one because the sump basin is filled up to the top with dirty muddy water.

My question is, can I drain my sump basin and then fill it up with gravel/rocks to build it up for this shorter pump so it will sit up higher? I know that I will get the big rocks because pebbles will get inside the pump. The basin looks pretty deep which is why my old pedestal sump is longer/taller. I saw the tall pedestal pumps BUT they were sold out all over!

I thought about getting a submersible sump. BUT I figured that I might as well put a pedestal down there since thats whats already down there.
The old sump is about 30 years old and it hasnt worked in 5 years. Should I have my neighbor replace the pipe that hooked up to my old sump? The pipe hooks up to the sewer! I think the pipe is galvanized or steel and it runs over to a drain thats hooked up to the kitchen sink and the washer is hooked up at.
I will probably have to replace the pipe anyways if I build the basin up with gravel because the pipe would be too long then!

One of our vent pipes turned out to be dislodged. That was causing the sewer smell to come in to the house, and specially into the kitchen. We had that fixed, but it still smells inside the bottom cabinets close to where the problem was. We think is soaked in smell from almost 8 years. Does any one know a way to get rid of the smell without changing the cabinets?
Thanks!

I tried a snake, a hose, liquid plumber and nothing has worked. Someone told me to use Root Destroyer since the main reason why it gets clogged it's because of the roots. What is your advice for me.
This questions is for people who have experienced this problem or professional plumbers. I'll be checking all day to give those 10 points. Thanks a lot!!!!!
